HDTV

When it comes to geekery, I’m not one to do things half-assed. Which is why, when I crossed back over to the dark side of boob-tube owners, I did so in a big way. This weekend, I got an HDTV tuner to pull in free digital and HDTV broadcasts over-the-air. (Because I don’t want to pay Comcast $345 a month.)

Now, I don’t care about most TV. (I like The Office {U.S.} and hope Jim gets to hit that shit next season, boo-yeah!, but otherwise…) But I am really looking forward to watching lots of sports in pristine, high-definition reception.

So, I plugged in the box yesterday afternoon, and was terribly excited to find the following sporting events for my viewing pleasure in HDTV:

  • World Cup Soccer
  • U.S. Open Golf
  • NASCAR racing
  • Some other kind of auto racing
  • And in the evening, NBA basketball

As you can see, I use the term “sporting events” very loosely.

But, I have to say, I really, really don’t get soccer. I mean, people say baseball is boring. But damn! When a 90-minute game ends in a 1-1 tie, and people think that shit’s exciting… well, it’s little wonder soccer fans have to drink themselves into a riotous rage in order to enjoy the game.
