Movie Review: A Scanner Darkly

If you were looking for a place to whale on Tech kids this weekend, you should have been at Tara.

Actually, the movie was pretty good. I was skeptical about the whole concept of doing animation directly on top of live action film, but I realized that by doing so, they were able to vastly improve Keanu Reeve’s acting range. And, in this current generation of film where there doesn’t seem to be much point to most movies beyond special effects one-upsmanship, the animation in Scanner came off as surprisingly minimalist and not-at-all gimmicky.
