The greatest thing in the whole history of the world ever happened a few weeks ago: Trader Joe’s finally opened their midtown store.
Trader Joe’s was part of the mythology of my youth; I’d never seen one, but I’d heard-tell of the amazing place. My uncle lived in the San Francisco bay area until recently. He’d bring delicious, bizarre, and fascinating treats from Trader Joe’s when he visited.
So, when I found out they’d be opening a store just a few minutes from my apartment, I was very excited. I’d drive by every couple of weeks to see if they’d put up a sign to announce their opening date yet. Alas, for months, there was no news. Then one day, I drove by to check again, and they were already open. Unfortunately, everybody in Atlanta was as excited as I was, so, even after scouring the parking lot for 10 minutes, I wasn’t able to find a parking spot and gave up.
My next trip was successful, though. I got dried dragon fruit, delicious soups-in-a-box, coffee, tea, ready-made dinner, chocolate covered cranberries, and some two-buck Chuck. (Two-buck Chuck is actually $2.50 in Georgia, though it drinks as well as many $6 wines.)
Shopping there is like an adventure. They always have new and interesting things. The food is all decent to high quality. Though, that’s the only downside; you never know what you can expect to find, so you can’t shop there with a plan. The best part is everything costs somewhere between significantly less and the same price as you would pay at a big grocery store. It’s my new favorite place.

Trader Joe’s is great. I feel so granola when I shop there.
Happy belated b-day, yo.
