To celebrate our lasting community impact, the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation recently shared updates on local housing solutions and elected a slate of directors for the coming year. As part of its August 3rd annual meeting, the board elected the 2023-24 incoming slate of directors including incumbents Dana Andrews, Jim Ford, Mary Rapin, and Sarah Shuman. Newly elected to two vacant terms were Dave Deal and Devin Marvin.
Dave Deal currently serves on the foundation’s investment committee and brings decades of experience in banking, finance, and consulting. He and his wife Debbie live on Walloon Lake. Devin Marvin, an incoming junior at Petoskey High School, joins the board as he enters his second year on the foundation’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). In addition to being an Eagle Scout, and member of the Petoskey Marching Band, Marvin also attended the Council of Michigan Foundation’s Youth Grantmakers Summer Leadership Conference earlier this summer.
During the annual meeting, the foundation honored its current leadership by celebrating outgoing board member Alex Carlson. Carlson began his service to the Community Foundation as an eighth grader when he joined the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). In addition to his five years on the YAC, Alex served the last year as a voting member of the board of directors.
The audience also heard a financial report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, from Community Foundation board treasurer Melissa Nguyen, CPA.
The program featured speakers Andrea Jacobs, Housing North’s Emmet County Housing Ready Program Director; Bill Mulder, volunteer with Harbor Area Residential Trust (HART), a program of Northern Homes CDC) and Sarah Ford, Director of Community Philanthropy at the foundation. The speakers shared updates on a variety of housing solutions currently underway in Emmet County ensuring that our community remains vibrant for the years and decades to come.
David (DJ) Jones, Executive Director of the foundation, closed the meeting by recognizing the various partners, nonprofits, donors, and community leaders in our community, noting that the foundation never works alone.
