Sturgeon River Pottery Fund for Education in the Visual Arts
Sturgeon River Pottery Fund for Education in the Visual Arts was established in 1999 by local residents Steve and Karen Andrews, in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary. The fund is named after Sturgeon River Pottery, a pottery studio and art shop located on Charlevoix Avenue in Petoskey, which Steve and Karen founded together many years ago. Steve and Karen created this fund not only to celebrate their love for each other—but also their love for visual arts and for the community that has supported Sturgeon River Pottery since its inception.
Sturgeon River Pottery Fund for Education in the Visual Arts provides funding to elementary, middle, and high school art teachers to purchase visual art supplies for their classrooms. Thanks to the continued generosity of the Andrews family, Sturgeon River Pottery employees and customers, more than $22,638 has been awarded to area schools to support creative expression among youth.
FUNDING GUIDELINES
K-12 art teachers based at Emmet County, MI or Wolverine, MI schools are eligible to apply for a grant. This fund is not intended to support preschool art supplies. Please contact the Community Foundation to discuss other funding opportunities for preschool children.
Grant requests must be $250.00 or less. Art supplies must be used with students in grades K-12 in the current school year and must pertain to visual art projects (such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, crafts, photography or animation).
Please submit your request in advance of the project. The Community Foundation does not reimburse supply costs for art projects that already occurred.

This grant program is now closed for 2023 but will open again in Fall 2024.
