In July 1992, a group of community-minded, forward-thinking people gathered to officially launch something remarkable: your Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. On Thursday, July 16, 1992, the founders of the Community Foundation gathered for the first annual meeting where they elected its founding board and announced its first executive director. The founders established the Community Foundation to invest in the future of the community they loved, to connect local generosity with local needs. They envisioned that this new organization would grow and serve the people of Emmet County, not just in the short term, but for generations to come.

The Community Foundation is celebrating this 30-year milestone as part of its 2022 Annual Meeting, set for Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm, at the Offield Family Viewlands, 1055 Hideaway Valley Drive, Harbor Springs.

“As our founders did those many years ago,” said David L. Jones (DJ), executive director of the Community Foundation, “we continue to look forward. Your Community Foundation continues to strengthen our community through innovative grantmaking and through leadership roles on the issues that impact our community every day. We are able to do this work, to continue this growth, thanks to you, our community.”

Sharing their reflections on the organization’s history and its people will be Maureen Nicholson, founding executive director, and Jim Ramer, founding board member. As part of the brief business portion of the annual meeting, the foundation members will also vote on the 2022 Slate of Directors including Jennifer Attie, Steven Boeckman, Alexander Carlson, Courtney Font, Robert Keedy, and Janet Mancinelli.

Refreshments will be served, and the event will feature live music from Owen James. The business meeting and anniversary program will begin promptly at 5:45 pm. The public is invited to attend the annual gathering. There is no cost to attend but registration is requested by emailing [email protected] or calling (231) 348-5820.
